I recently read a pre-release copy of Strong As a Mother: How to Stay Healthy, Happy, and (Most Importantly) Sane from Pregnancy to Parenthood: The Only Guide to Taking Care of YOU! I feel like personal empowerment is the most important thing you can have in motherhood (as well as a doula of course) and Strong As a Mother is a huge step towards it. Split up into easy to digest sections, this is one parenting book you won't have difficulty finding time to read.
We prepare ourselves with a good childbirth education class, breastfeeding education and hiring a doula. I find we forget to take care of ourselves and our mental health in the time before birth and in the postpartum period. This book delves into the emotional health and self-care aspects of becoming a parent better than anything I have read previously. Even reading Strong As a Mother while parenting a 3 and a 7 year old, I found the information provided to be helpful.
